Who is eligible
You may qualify to dismiss one eligible violation if you have not attended defensive driving for a violation within the preceding 12 months, measured from violation date to violation date. Your citation must qualify for diversion. A violation involving a collision that caused death or serious physical injury is not eligible. Criminal speeding requires permission from the court. Commercial driver license holders may qualify when cited while driving a vehicle requiring a Class D or Class M license that was not being used commercially; violations committed while operating a vehicle requiring a commercial driver license do not qualify. We verify your eligibility before you begin.
Completion deadline
Complete the course at least 7 days before the arraignment date listed on your citation. If you need more time, contact your court about an extension before enrolling.

Is your Arizona defensive driving course approved?
The course is designed for applicable Arizona requirements. Confirm that it is accepted for your specific court, agency, or point-reduction purpose before enrolling.

Can I have an Arizona traffic ticket dismissed by taking defensive driving?
Yes. If you are eligible and successfully complete the course by the required deadline, one eligible traffic violation can be dismissed through Arizona’s defensive driving diversion program. It does not dismiss every charge on a citation or erase all court records. Special reporting rules apply to commercial driver license holders; see FAQ 10.

How do I know if my traffic ticket is eligible?
Eligibility depends on your citation, driving record, and the rules of the court or state agency handling your case. Confirm your eligibility before registering.

How often can I take defensive driving in Arizona?
For ticket diversion, you may attend once in a 12-month period. Eligibility is measured from the date of the previous violation for which you attended defensive driving to the date of your current violation—not from the date you completed the previous course. We verify your eligibility before you begin.

How long is the Arizona defensive driving course?
Arizona defensive driving requires at least 240 minutes of instruction, with total course time of no more than 270 minutes—4 to 4½ hours. Breaks and identity verification are additional. You can log out and return, but you must complete the course by your deadline.

Can I take Arizona defensive driving online?
Yes. Approved online options can be completed from a compatible phone, tablet, laptop, or desktop computer. Verify that online completion is accepted for your requirement.

Will the dismissed ticket put points on my Arizona driving record?
No points are assessed for the eligible violation successfully resolved through Arizona’s defensive driving diversion program. This does not remove points from other violations. For eligible CDL holders, the court must still report the judgment to MVD, even though no points are assessed.

When do I have to complete the course?
Complete the course at least 7 days before your court arraignment date. If you cannot meet that deadline, contact the court promptly to request an extension. Do not assume extra time has been granted; follow the approved revised deadline.

Can I dismiss more than one ticket with the course?
No. One course completion can be used to dismiss only one eligible violation. If your citation contains multiple violations, you must resolve the remaining charges separately with the court.

Can a CDL holder take Arizona defensive driving?
A CDL holder may qualify if the cited vehicle required a Class D or Class M license, was not being used commercially and all other eligibility rules are met. After successful completion, the court still sends the judgment to MVD, but no points are assessed. Depending on the violation, MVD may require Traffic Survival School.
